Workshops length varies from 2 to 5 days. A workshop includes lectures, demonstrations and actual painting time for the participants. Materials will be required.

During this 3 day workshop, participants will make and take home completed drawings and small oil painting studies of the individual features of the face. We will examine all aspects of the eyes, nose, mouth, ears and hair. Instead of working from a model we'll be using our own faces in the mirror, each other's faces, drawings, photographs and handouts for study. Each participant will also complete his or her own chart of flesh color mixtures based on my own flesh color palette. Instead of the "pressure" to perform in a workshop, or to finish a portrait from life, we'll zero in on the complexities of each facial feature and learn to construct the individual features before having to consider the head as a whole. This way, when you are confronted with a portrait from life, you will bring to it the confidence of familiarity with the correct colors and the knowledge of the construction of the features. When using a photo reference, the knowledge gained in this workshop will help supply the important information that photos just don't supply. The workshop is limited to 10, minimum of 5 required. Classroom location: Walkersville, Maryland. Directions upon request.

This workshop is a no-stress way to familiarize yourself with each facial feature to increase confdence and dramatically improve your portrait likenesses! Daily demonstrations and In-depth instruction on individual facial features
It is such a pleasure to be able to effortlessly and quickly identify colors, color values and temperatures, mix them accurately on the first attempt without fumbling and over-mixing, and know how to mix them again and again, at any time!! All it takes is true understanding of how color works.
Did you ever struggle forever to mix just the right color and then not remember what you mixed to get that color? (we've all been there....)
Not only is that time consuming and impedes your progress as a painter, it encourages dull, dirty color and leads to overworking your painting.
Break through to a new level! All it takes is acquiring a true understanding of how color works.
This popular workshop is an intensive two days of concentrated color mixing. We will be working in my Walkersville, Maryland personal studio in a small group (maximum 9 participants). Not only will you create your color charts but you will learn how to accurately and quickly match any color you see. Learn to rely on your own understanding of color and be able to mix your own versions of commercially available colors. Some materials and pre- workshop preparation is required. Allow a couple of weeks before the workshop to acquire materials and do the pre-workshop preparation. A complete list of required materials, specific required oil paints, patterns and instructions will be provided immediately after registration and payment is received
YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE FACIAL FEATURES WILL INCREASE DRAMATICALLY!
OIL PAINTERS: LEARN HOW TO MIX ANY COLOR YOU SEE!
EACH PARTICIPANT WILL THEIR OWN FLESH COLOR CHART TO TAKE HOME. THIS COLOR PALETTE IS THE SAME ONE I HAVE USED TO PAINT HUNDREDS OF COMMISSIONED PORTRAITS
Our primary focus during this busy workshop will be to complete a set of 4 valuable color charts (see photo above) for you to take home, frame and hang in your own studio to serve as valuable reference tools..
Many of us have been "meaning to do a color chart" for ages, but it is a formidable task to take on when working alone. With a group it is fun and inspiring! These charts are meant to be framed and will serve you for years and years as outstanding reference tools. Invest in yourself!
I WILL HOST THIS COLOR WORKSHOP FOR A GROUP OF 5 PEOPLE.! DO YOU KNOW 4 PEOPLE WHO WOULD LOVE TO LEARN HOW TO MIX ANY COLOR?
